The Great Lakes are under threat and need you to take urgent action. The new Canadian Blue Community Water Watchers is reaching out to share a few ways you can take action to help protect the Great Lakes and subsequently the drinking water of over 40 million people!
Action 1: Act on Salt Pollution
Tell your MPP and our ON Government officials that salt pollution calls for better policies & practices for winter management! Salt pollution has year-round impacts, we must stay diligent and demand better policies and practices from our decision-makers.

Action 2: North American Oil Spill Day
July 25 is a day to commemorate the disastrous Enbridge oil spill in the Kalamazoo River of 2010, which is the most impactful spill on land in North America (that we know of!). The pipelines and infrastructures that threaten our collective waters and lands are still operating, in our backyards, through our forests, and under our rivers and lakes. So this day is a good opportunity to remind us that the risk is still there and it’s only a matter of time until the next major spill.
In solidarity with many who are calling to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5, we are asking you to take action in the following ways:
- Take a photo or video of yourself with a homemade sign calling to shut down line 5
- Take a photo or video of a natural environment site that is threatened by a potential oil spill
