The Spanish Blue Community Asociación Española de Operadores Públicos de Abastecimiento y Saneamiento (AEOPAS. Association of Public Water Supply and Sanitation Operators) calls for a wise use of fertilisers: Excess fertiliser harms water health and promotes eutrophication 🌱💧 Take care of your plants and our planet! Use fertilisers with a conscience 🌍.
And the German public NDR TV resports: Maize cultivation with consequences: Pesticide residues in drinking water! The active ingredient known as S-metolachlor has been reassessed as potentially carcinogenic. For twenty years, it was a component of the most important weedkillers in maize cultivation. Since July 2024, it may no longer be applied to fields due to the potential cancer risk. However, according to the Federal Environment Agency, residues of the active ingredient can already be found in aquifers across the country. They also reach wells from which drinking water is extracted via aquifers. And in many waterworks, the potentially carcinogenic residues cannot yet be removed from the water. They therefore end up in the tap water of private customers, as a laboratory analysis commissioned by Panorama 3 shows.
