In Sucre, the de jure capital city of Bolivia, the Cumbre Plurinacional del Agua para la Vida (Plurinational Water for Life Summit) has been taking place last Sunday, 29 September.
During the summit, the Ministry of Environment and Water and 10 municipal governments signed intergovernmental agreements for the implementation of drinking water and sanitation projects for a total of 83 million Bolivianos (12 million US$). Alan Lisperguer, Minister of Environment and Water, declared:
Our relationship with water must change to one of respect and sustainable use, reducing activities that damage the environment and taking measures to collect and store water, adapting to new climatic conditions and working to maintain water flows, which are decreasing day by day.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation, Yerson Carballo, the General Manager of Emagua, Mario Mendoza, representatives of social organisations, departmental legislators, among others.
