The Union populaire pour la Libération de la Guadeloupe (UPLG, Popular Front for the Liberation of Guadeloupe, held by France as a colony), had a press conference on the Report on human rights violations in the French overseas territories. Mr Florent, UPLG’s Deputy Secretary General, stated:
“Our drinking water is toxic. The water problem is one of the permanent problems, with no solution in sight. We used to clean and use dirty rain. However, this did not solve our water problems. Our drinking water has been poisoned by the substance chlorodicone and our water is now toxic, even unfit for agriculture. Our country exports bananas. Since we use this water, our agriculture is being poisoned.”
