South Australians along the River Murray have spoken up about a possible critically endangered listing. A Ngarrindjeri elder in the state’s south says the whole river system needs the listing to survive. The SA government is working through the draft with a final assessment to be delivered to the federal environment minister next month.
In its draft conservation advice, the Threatened Species Scientific Committee (TSSC) has determined the proposed River Murray — Darling to Sea classification is a result of the widespread decline or loss of species and unlikely ecological restoration.
