Themed week on water between extremes

Themenwochen

The extremes are growing stronger in between which the important geo-resource water is moving. This is causing major challenges in our everyday lives, as the availability of drinking water and crop yields are becoming scarcer. On the other hand, we are also experiencing more and more frequent inland flooding or storm surges on the coasts. Cities and regions are often not designed to be able to absorb and drain such masses of water. How can we manage such challenges?

With a themed week on water between extremes (October 9 to 11, 2024) at the Xplanatorium Schloss Herrenhausen conference centre in Hanover, the German Volkswagen Foundation (not linked with the car producing company) intends to connect scientists with non-scientific actors to will jointly address how to manage such challenges. Four symposia were financed and are being held to work out how we can adapt our habitats and ways of living to be better prepared for extreme conditions. Moreover, symposia are expected to deal with approaches for transferring the knowledge gained into practice.

The event is about to close on Friday. Blue Community activists were participating at the event and will report on it.
