Welcome Marcela González Rivas, Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Policy and International Affairs in Pittsburgh, USA, as our new Blue Community Ambassador.
«The principles underlying the UN resolution of the human right to water: sustainability, affordability, accountability, transparency, are the ones that have guided my work throughout my career. Water service provision should be treated as a public good, as evidence shows that public ownership is the model most compatible with the human right to water and sanitation framework. A private water provider operates under the criterion of private business model of profit maximization, which is in direct conflict with the central aspect of the UN Resolution, which is to guarantee access to affordable and safe water to all. My research expands to the importance of considering global environmental justice when making local or national water policies. Blue Communities align with and advocate for the defense of these principles, which is why I am happy to support the initiative.»
