The network of Blue Communities in the Swiss Canton of Zurich launches Blue Gastro – with DRINK & DONATE and ‘ZH2O züriwasser’.
The organisation Viva con Agua becomes a Blue Community with its tap water initiative DRINK & DONATE! With the mission ‘Drink tap water – donate drinking water’, DRINK & DONATE has been promoting the consumption of tap water for almost 15 years, including in the catering and hotel sector. So far, more than 100 restaurants have taken part.
DRINK & DONATE and the Blue Community are committed to the human right to water. Together we are working to ensure that all people around the world have access to this vital resource.
At the beginning of November, Viva con Agua submitted the commitment for DRINK & DONATE to become a Blue Community. And even before this is formalised, DRINK & DONATE and the Blue Community Chapter Canton of Zurich have decided to work together. The Blue Community Canton of Zurich is adding a new cluster to its work by launching a Blue Gastro pilot project. With the support of DRINK & DONATE, the Blue Community will reach out to restaurants and motivate them to serve tap water and promote the human right to water. The collaboration is now underway and we hope to see the first results soon.
About DRINK & DONATE
It all started in 2010 with the ‘ZH2O züriwasser’ donation concept in various restaurants in Zurich – ecologically, economically and socially. Tap water (ZH2O züriwasser) is added to the drinks menu to promote the ecological consumption of tap water and at the same time to combine this with the economic component for the restaurateur to charge a small contribution for tap water from now on. The donation, which is included in the sales price, supports global water projects and thus social commitment. DRINK & DONATE uses these donations to fully fund drinking water projects to give people access to clean drinking water. Since 2010, the DRINK & DONATE tap water range has been ordered more than 1.2 million times by the hospitality industry.
