WaterWatchers call for Blue Friday

The Canadian Blue Community (Wellington) Water Watchers call for a Blue Friday: Black Friday is about trends and overconsumption, but water protection is always in style.

Every day, water touches every single life around the world. Our connection to water is universal, ever-present.

But water is also threat. From overconsumption to pollution, the water needs us to be part of its life every single day as well. We need to make every day Blue Friday.

Take Action for Water Protection!

This Friday (and every day), the water needs you. Take action with us through one of our water protection campaigns below. From fighting fossil fuel expansion to advocating for the human right to water, we have something for everyone in our campaigns.

End Bottled Water

Right now, at least 6 different water bottling companies are sucking up, packaging, shipping, and selling Ontario waters for profit. These companies pay next to nothing for the water they take, pollute the environment with plastics, mislead consumers about the safety of their product, and undermine the government responsibility to provide clean drinking water for all. → Learn More

Stop Salt Pollution

Every year, Ontario dumps approximately 6 million tonnes of salt on sidewalks, roads, and parking lots. This is turning freshwater ecosystem saline and threatening drinking water sources across the Great Lakes. We desperately need Ontario to take the lead on better winter management policies that protect water.  → Take Action

Water is a Human Right

Around 1,000,000 people across Canada are going without access to safe drinking water, a human right that is supposed to be guaranteed for all. We need Canada to legally recgonize the human right to water in the federal legal framework so water can become a human right in Canada, too.  → Sign the Petition

End Line 5

Enbridge’s Line 5 is a 73-year old oil & gas pipeline threatening the integrity of the Great Lakes. Indigenous Nations across the Great Lakes Watershed want to see an End to Line 5. Join the End Line 5 Canada Coalition in our solidarity and water protection work to stop another Great Lakes oil spill!  → Get Involved

Solidarity With Indigenous-Led Movements

These lands and waters we work to protect were dispossessed from Indigenous Peoples through the process of colonization.  Despite this, Indigenous communities have survived and remained strong in their kinship with the lands and waters of their traditional and treaty territories. The threats to water we confront are symptoms of colonialism, capitalism, white supremacy, and patriarchy.

We imbed Indigenous solidarity into 100% of our campaigns. We also fundraise for Indigenous organizations, mobilize alongside Indigenous-led movements, co-design events and campaigns with Indigenous leaders, and share our capacity when and where we’re asked because Indigenous justice is water justice is climate justice.

For many years now, Water Watchers has supported youth and Clan Mothers and the Hereditary Council from Six Nations in challenging the water taking permit of Nestle/Blue Triton in Ontario. All donations made here will go towards covering the legal fees for this ongoing campaign.

Double the Green for Double the Blue Impact! 💦 All Donations Doubled 💦

We are powered by YOU! From now until the end of the year, all donations are being matched up to $10,000. Thanks to a generous donor, you can double your impact for water protection with a 2X donation.
