The Blue Communities Project encourages municipalities and Indigenous communities to support the idea of a water commons framework, recognizing that water is a shared resource for all, Recognizing water and sanitation as human rights. Promoting publicly financed, owned, and operated water and wastewater services. The mandate of implementing the Blue Communities Project in Africa is to empower local communities to assert their right to water, protect water as a common good, & foster equitable water management practices. This project aims to create a new narrative that transcends traditional approaches and emphasizes community self-management.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES BLUE COMMUNITIES AFRICA PROGRAMME
- Recognition of Water as a Common Good: Affirm water as a fundamental human right and a shared resource essential for life.
- Community Self-Management: Advocate for the right to community self-management of water resources.
- Opposition to Privatization: Reject all forms of privatization, commercialization, and commodification of water resources
- Transparent Environmental and Administrative Management: Ensure transparent and environmentally responsible governance of water resources.
- Waste water Management: Commit to proper management of wastewater, emphasizing recycling and sustainable disposal practices.
