An estimated 3,700 tons of low-grade fuel oil had spilled into the Kerch Strait after two Russian ships were seriously damaged by stormy weather, Russian state media reported Monday (see Blue News from yesterday here).
The two ships, the Volgoneft 239 and the Volgoneft 212, were transporting roughly 9,200 tons of mazut, a heavy, low-quality oil product. Social media footage from the scene showed a black liquid rising among the waves.
Update 18 December:
All that oil spilling from three Russian tankers—part of its shadow fleet—isn’t just heading to Russia; it’s polluting the entire Black Sea. This could turn into one of the region’s worst ecological disasters. Honestly, does this country ever brings anything good to the world?
