Hope, Clarity, and Determination

The Canadian Blue Community Water Watchers writes:

There are two ways to enter 2025. With fear, apprehension, and apathy…

Or with hope, clarity, and determination.

We’ve just celebrated one of our biggest victories to date, yet the effort to protect water never ends. That reality inspires us to keep showing up for our collective waters. We’re starting off the year by sharing a featured campaign, as well as upcoming events from Water Watchers and our community of water protectors.

As we enter 2025, let’s make more than just a resolution. Let’s recommit to our adage: Water for Life, Not Profit.

Starting 2025 Strong For Water: End the Line 5 Oil Pipeline

We’re working hard to make sure 2025 is the year we turn up the pressure to end the Line 5 pipeline. Alongside our allies in the End Line 5 Canada Coalition, we have a series of actions and events to create the wave of pressure we need to stop this ticking time bomb in the Great Lakes.

Launching a Grassroots Action Toolkit

In the coming weeks, we will be launching a Grassroots Action Toolkit to help more people get involved in the fight to End Line 5. Keep your eyes peeled for the official launch email & reach out if you’d like an advance copy!

In-Person Actions in Madison, Wisconsin

In light of the recent Line 5 re-route approval and Line 6 oil spill, CBOWG is cooking up a series of actions for the Madison area on Friday January 10th, Saturday the 11th, and Monday the 13th.  These are:

Bad River Film Screenings in Toronto & Montréal

Alongside water protectors Joe Bates and Gracie Waukechon from Bad River Band, we’ll watch the award-winning documentary ‘Bad River’ at two screenings in Toronto and Montréal, followed by a panel discussion & ways to take action (see details and other events on the right in Upcoming Events)

Wherever the beginning of 2025 finds you, we hope you’ll stick with us as we fight for future we all deserve.

Because of you, we have a lot to be proud of. I want us all to feel that same way this time next year…and the next…and the next.

The work we do takes listening, understanding, speaking out and standing up. But it also takes funding. Your contribution–of any amount you’re able to share–sets all of us up for success in the next big fight. And there will always be one.

Thank you again for all you’ve done. Thank you for all you’ll do in the future. Happy near year!

Yours in the fight for water justice,

Arlene Slocombe
