The climate crisis is real – and it is first and foremost a water crisis. It would take bold action to look and move forward, to stop the destruction and exploitation, to save our blue planet and our own existence.

But the world is falling apart. Big parts of people and politics are mentally falling back into the Middle Ages, the pre-enlightenment era, when there was no difference between religious belief and scientific evidence. Many people want to believe that they are not guilty, that they are not to be blamed for the disasters, for drought and flooding, wild fires and water scarcity. And they want to believe that a life as usual without changing is possible. That’s why they support politic and politicians that don’t change anything.

Some billionaires are actively contributing and pulling the strings by declaring climate change and the water crisis a hoax. They are undermining and destroying truth and science, the trust in democratically elected and established institutions, citizens’ trust in politics and democracy – with the sole aim of increasing their immense wealth and control over decision-making even more.

So-called social media are an important tool in their fight against democracy and to pull broader parts of society under their control and back into darkness. Some of these social media channels are owned by the richest people on our planet and serve their very own interests. Openly they align with climate deniers, right-wing extremists, even dictators. So how to deal with this?

Posting information for the Blue Community network, I use all channels trying to reach out. It’s not on me to tell people what channel they have to use. But…

• I promote channels that are democratic, professional and follow science. Our main channel (in terms of audience) is Linkedin, with a growing number of followers also on BlueSky and Mastodon.
• I do not engage in other channels (X, Facebook, Instagram), but only follow important sources that are (still) only there and serve the people who have not moved over yet. Regularly I delete and block fake accounts and bots following the Blue Community on these channels.

I invite everyone to follow us on any of the trusted channels and let us know when you change, so we can dry out the brown swamp user by user.
