Work is underway in Mexico’s state capital of Michoacán to repair water tanks so that they can provide sufficient water to their respective neighbourhoods.
At least 19 water tanks have stopped supplying water to the same number of neighbourhoods, exacerbating the water problem for many of them, and the Water, Sewage and Sanitation Operators’ Association (OOAPAS) is working to restore them.
Since last year, and in some cases since their inauguration, they have not been supplying water to the areas concerned. Faced with this situation, the director of OOAPAS, Adolfo Torres Ramirez, has stated that work is underway to restore the wells in order to find a solution to the problem of water, which, along with security, is one of the main needs that citizens ask the government to address year after year.
“We are already working on rehabilitating the tanks so that the water can be distributed in an adequate manner and so that the entire population of Morelia can be better served, since this is one of the main complaints that has been maintained for many years.”
He concluded by saying that this new rescue project will take at least three months to complete, and that it will involve intervening in the sources of each of the tanks to improve water distribution and reduce complaints about the service.
In the first 19 days of the first year, at least six neighbourhoods from different areas of the city demonstrated in front of the OOAPAS headquarters, located in the east of the city on Avenida Acueducto, demanding that the municipality provide water services immediately.
