Organizational Session for the 2026 UN Water Conference.
The co-hosts of the 2026 UN Water Conference to Accelerate the Implementation of SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), the Governments of Senegal and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), announced a one-day organizational session. The session will consider updated recommendations to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) on the theme of the Conference’s six interactive dialogues.
The 2026 UN Water Conference will focus on actions to accelerate SDG 6 achievement and reaffirm internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Conference will result in an outcome document, focusing on areas of accelerated and collective action to support SDG 6.
In advance of the organizational session, the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) will prepare a background note with proposals for themes for the interactive dialogues in consultations with Member States and with the support of UN Water and related UN entities. The themes are expected to be agreed upon during a one-day meeting convened by the UNGA President on 9 July 2025.
