Sedapal tankers distribute free drinking water thanks to funding from Peru’s Ministry of Housing.
The Ministry of Housing, through the Safe Water Programme for Lima and Callao (PASLC), has resumed the distribution of free drinking water in the most vulnerable areas of the capital. This distribution, carried out by Sedapal water tankers, aims to guarantee access to the resource in areas that do not have a continuous supply.
Since the early hours of the morning, the tankers have been on the road to different points in Lima and Callao. In total, around 20 areas will be gradually supplied with drinking water.
In Villa El Salvador, a residual chlorine test was carried out on the water in the trucks as part of the quality protocol. The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that the water is fit for human consumption and meets hygiene standards.
According to current regulations, the water at the pumps must contain between 1 and 1.5 parts per million of chlorine. During transport in tankers, this level must be maintained between 0.5 and 1.5 ppm to avoid health risks.
Water quality control is a key measure to prevent gastrointestinal illness and infections in the population. Ensuring that the resource arrives in optimal conditions is a priority within the distribution plan.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Housing is financing this initiative through the PASLC, which allows the contracting of water tankers operated by Sedapal. The distribution will be carried out progressively in order to continue serving the most affected communities in accordance with the established sanitary standards.
