The Blue Community welcomes its first affiliate in Pakistan: AHD Pakistan – Association for Humanitarian Development joins the Blue Community.
Pakistan is among the most water-stressed countries in the world. Only 36 percent of the population has access to safely managed water, a problem that will likely get worse in the coming years due to rapid population growth and urbanization, as well as global warming.
The Blue Community Network is proud and honored to welcome AHD Pakistan, the Association for Humanitarian Development, as its first affiliate in Pakistan. This highly experienced and respected organisation is working not only in Pakistan, but with more than 60 projects also in Sub-Saharan Africa.
AHD Pakistan is a not for profit entity registered in Pakistan in the year 2003. AHD Pakistan stands as non-government organization, striving for human development through participation, peace and with dignity. AHD Pakistan has worked for disadvantaged groups and people affected by human and natural disasters in Pakistan and in Africa – Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique. AHD Pakistan facilitates communities in need and challenges them to participate and explore the solutions which exist within their edge.
Since its inception, AHD Pakistan has built on the experiential learning and feedback from communities and started to support communities for innovative solutions for safe drinking water, preventive healthcare, food security and livelihood; which eventually emerged as its programs.
AHD Pakistan developped and promotes a safe drinking water model which is contextually appropriate, easy to install, verified and internationally recognized; bio sand water filter through Nadi (a clay pitcher). This Nadi Filter model has been rewarded, accredited and awarded by GSK-UK, UNHABITAT, Energy Globe Awards, and APFED Showcase as the best safe drinking water solution for developing countries.
Mr. A. Khurshid Bhatti is leading AHD Pakistan as CEO and Founding President. He has a post graduate degree in agriculture agronomy from Sindh Agriculture University Tando Jam, Sindh Pakistan. With 26 years’ experience, he is winner of 5 international awards (APFED Showcase, Energy Globe Award 2014 & 2019 Austria, Healthcare Innovation Award from GSK-UK). He has successfully managed some 100 projects in Pakistan, Kenya, Uganda and Mozambique and credited several training and learning opportunities in various countries around the globe.
Khurshid Bhatti, CEO and founder of AHD Pakistan, states:
«I ask the global community not to forget rural poor, vulnerable, indigenous communities. They need access to safe and clean drinking water. AHD Nadi filters are made for poor rural communities. Together with the whole Blue Community Network, we will try to reach every poor and vulnerable community and bring access to safe and clean drinking water.»
Maude Barlow, Co-Founder of the Blue Community, welcomes AHD Pakistan to the network:
«To find a so highly experienced and committed partner organisation as AHD Pakistan, in a country as poor and as hardly affected by the global water crisis as Pakistan, is a very exiting development for our global network – and a great support for the Blue Communities in Africa and around the globe. Welcome AHD. We look forward to work together.»
