Brazil: Blue University Celebrates WWD2025

PUCPR celebrates World Water Day with awareness and sustainability initiatives. The university promotes water awareness activities and reaffirms commitment to water conservation.

The Brazilian Blue Community / Blue University Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná PUCPR celebrates World Water Day by reaffirming its commitment to water conservation. As part of the Blue Community, the University is organising activities to promote sustainability, including talks, artistic presentations and a live session with experts.

Established by the United Nations in 1993, 22 March was set aside to raise awareness of the importance of water and its sustainable management. Each year, a specific theme is chosen for reflection and action. In 2025, the focus will be on the preservation of glaciers, which are fundamental to the climate balance and directly affected by environmental change.

In this context, UN member states are encouraged to promote actions that raise awareness of the world’s water situation and encourage solutions. Committed to this cause, the PUCPR is part of the Blue Community, a group of institutions that promote water awareness among the academic community, creating and hosting concrete initiatives aimed at affirming water as a universal right.

To mark the occasion, the Water Committee and the PUCPR Water Club have organised two special events:

  • 21 March at 9am and 5pm: A round table on water, with poetry and theatre. The event will be attended by PUCPR professors and students, as well as external guests: Xixirrá, from the Jamamaidi indigenous community; André Thá, a ‘peace musician’; and Thierry B. Lummertz, who works with theatre.
  • 22 March at 11 am: Live on World Water Day, with the participation of PUCPR professors Elias Wolff, from PPGT, and Marta Fischer, from PPGB, and guests Vera Catalão and Nelton Friedrich, both from the Ecumenical Water Network (REDA-Brasil).

Other PUCPR Water Committee Initiatives: PUCPR continues to promote debate and study on water throughout the semester with initiatives such as:

  • Book: Blue University. The University and Water Justice
  • PPGT Seminar/PUCPR Extension Course ’10 Years of Laudato Si’. Analysis and Prospects”: 19-21 May 2025.

By being part of the Blue Community and promoting these actions, PUCPR is raising awareness about the importance of water. Join the cause and take part in the activities!
