From reclassifying waterways to loosening inspections, lawmakers are chipping away at West Virginia’s clean water protections.
West Virginians from Wheeling to Welch are struggling to get clean drinking water while bills to roll back regulations that protect water sources are moving through the Legislature.
“Everyone should have access to safe drinking water,” Smith, the West Virginia Rivers Coalition Executive Director, said.
But tens of thousands of West Virginians across the state lack access to clean drinking water.
As the legislative session ticks by, lawmakers are moving measures that could worsen water quality instead.
