UNICEF Provides Safe Drinking Water in 25 Districts of Eastern Afghanistan.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that it has provided safe drinking water in 25 districts across eastern Afghanistan. In a report published on Thursday, March 20, UNICEF stated that this project was implemented during 2023-2024 with financial support from USAID. According to UNICEF, the goal of this initiative was to supply safe drinking water to children and their families in remote villages.

The report highlights that in the Bargi Matal district of Nuristan province, two reservoirs have been set up to collect water, which is then distributed to 79 water taps, supplying clean and fresh water to 207 families, including 782 children. Mohammad Khan, one of the beneficiaries of the project, stated: “The water from this tap helps me stay healthy, and I no longer fall sick as I used to. Now, I only drink water from this tap.”

The lack of access to safe drinking water remains one of the major challenges in both remote areas and cities, with residents having faced this issue for years. This comes as UN agencies have warned of a severe drought in Afghanistan in 2025.
