Project to promote the installation of drinking water fountains approved.
In the third debate of the Seventh Commission of the Colombian House of Representatives, a project was approved that aims to provide drinking water fountains in areas of public use and in public spaces; this will guarantee free access to this service for all citizens and animals.
Once this law is passed, the local authorities will have six months to define the characteristics and technical specifications of the drinking fountains, which will be installed within four years from the date of the law’s approval, provided that the local authorities have the necessary budget for their installation and that the drinking water coverage in the territory is higher than 95%.
In this sense, the bill will guarantee benefits to the population in general and, in particular, to street dwellers and migrants, in order to guarantee their right to the minimum essential water supply.
In the Seventh Commission of the Congress of Deputies, this important bill was presented as rapporteur by the deputy Germán Rogelio Rozo Anís, who will accompany the bill in its fourth and final debate.
