Blue Community AHD, Association for Humanitarian Development from Pakistan, launches fundraising:

Safe Drinking Water for Earthquake Victims Myanmar.

As you know, a devastating earthquake (7.8 on the Richter scale) hit Myanmar last Friday, 28th of March. The people of Myanmar, already in dire straights because of the conflict and economic hardship due to the military ruling, are now facing acute emergency. Thousands have perished and many more are injured. And countless people are still missing. The infrastructure throughout the country is severely damaged: AHD helping Earthquake victims with safe drinking water during emergency.

Khurshit Bhatti, founder of AHD, writes:

In the major cities of Mandalay, Nay Piy Thaw and Sagaing more than half of the buildings have collapsed; Yangon is less affected.
The survivors are on drift and have lost everything.
While some foreign rescue and medical teams have meanwhile reached Yangon, this is a drop in the ocean.

I have received an urgent call for support from my dear friend and colleague Prof. Dr, Khin NiNi Thein.
She and her colleagues are using their different local NGOs and community groups to provide direct help on the ground.

For those of you who do not know Dr. NiNI, she is a renowned water and development professional working for UN and other international agencies for many years.
She was exiled from Burma after the 1988 student upraising against the military and found refuge in The Netherlands where she was granted Dutch Nationality.
She returned to her country 2008 and has been instrumental in rebuilding the water management structures in her country during and after the return to democracy, both in her professional capacity, and through her volunteer work in the civil society organisations that she founded and/or supports.
After the 2022 military coup, she has left her professional positions but stayed in Myanmar to work in her local organisations to support her people.
Dr. NiNI and her colleagues have now left their regular work to provide emergency relief.

If you feel the people of Myanmar deserve your support, kindly donate to Water Research and Training Centre, under the mention of Earthquake Myanmar
