Agua Potable is a time bomb that is about to explode, said Yolanda Mamani, general secretary of Obras Sanitarias de Jujuy, referring to the current situation of the state-owned company.
A state of water emergency has been declared in the province of Jujuy, approved by the legislature a few days ago. But beyond this situation, the union of Obras Sanitarias de Jujuy has denounced irregularities in the management of various directors. Yolanda Mamani, general secretary of the union, said: “Unfortunately, we have had to live through a reality that we haven’t seen for a long time, but if we add to it the total precariousness of the services, because if there is something that the union has always denounced, it is that this company is a time bomb that is now exploding and has just been caught in this emergency that was capital.”
She also pointed out that: “It’s been a year and a half since part of the board of directors changed and they haven’t even begun to normalise the precariousness in which the company found itself, which is why everything is exploding today, which is a consequence of the Morales and Galarza management”.
On the other hand, she stated that she had asked Governor Sadir to carry out an audit of the company, “so that they can see how they have put their hands in the pockets of the people and return everything they have stolen from them”. She also denounced the discontent of the workers at Agua Potable SE: “They have taken us to the brink and it is very difficult to get out, but they are not doing anything to get us out. Salaries are low, some workers are paid one peso an hour for overtime, where have you seen that before, and the total impunity of those who manage the company’s accounts is the last straw. They are led by the accountant Ramirez and his liquidator Alvarado, who is retired but still working. They have him there because he has already done the figures, and he puts his hand in people’s pockets”, concludes Yolanda Mamani.
