In the face of the US President’s attacks on science, Claudia Kemfert, Professor of Energy Economics and Head of the Energy and Environment Division at the German Institute for Economic Research DIW, is calling for a global ‘March of Science’:
The Trump administration’s ongoing attacks on science, not least climate science, have left stakeholders and experts stunned. What is going wrong? Is climate research also suffering outside the US?
What Trump is doing is an absolute disaster for science, for democracy, for everything. It’s not just climate science that will suffer, it’s health science and all the sciences.
US science is world-leading and internationally networked. International research projects are also collapsing, including coronavirus research.
Many universities and research institutions in the US are rightly fighting back. They need support and assistance from around the world. We should not just try to poach smart scientists, but give them full solidarity and stand up against these measures.
Science as a whole must speak out, worldwide. It is time for a global ‘March of Science’.
My add: I will join this march and declare it also a march of enlightenment against the medieval forces of darkness, religious beliefs and conspiracies.
