On April 17, Doug Ford introduced Bill 5, Protecting Ontario by Unleashing the Economy Act.Bill 5 is attempting to scrap the Endangered Species Act (2007), reduce scientific oversight on wildlife management, and threaten Indigenous rights to free, prior and informed consent. It is Ford’s next step in his ongoing assault on decades of environmental protections. Posed as a response to Trump tariffs and the need for economic growth, this bill is actually about cutting corners and silencing the voices of those who stand to protect the lands and waters we rely on. Bill 5 is about giving his government sweeping powers to push through projects without proper oversight.
In opposition to this bill we will be hosting a Phone Zap to inundate the government with our concerns.
A phone zap is collective action where we come together, make phone calls, and send emails to inundate the decision-makers with our stance on an issue. On Wednesday May 28 from 12PM – 1PM, we are going to call the provincial government and let them know we are against Bill 5! During the session, we’ll provide how-to instructions for calling government officials and a script so you can feel supported to oppose Bill 5.
Together, we are stronger. That’s why collective actions like this are so important.
