Peace Point Development Foundation PPDF› joins the network

«Creating a society where all vulnerable groups including women, youths, children & the physically impede persons have equal access to development services.» This is, what PPDF stands for.

Peace Point Development Foundation PPDF is a Non- Governmental Organization established in 2005. The organization got registered with the Cooperate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria in 2018.

PPDF believes that a society were all vulnerable groups including women, youths, children and the physically impede persons have equal access to development services is possible. Thus the organization is working towards bringing succor to indigent people of Nigeria affected by negative environmental injustice, human right abuses and other social related issues through strategically sustainable designed programs.

Environmental justice issues including oil spills/gas flaring monitoring/reporting, water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), peace building/conflict resolution, good governance, human/child rights issues, livelihoods, research, advocacy and campaign are all in the thematic focus of PPDF. Promoting climate justice and sustainable environmental practices in four oil and gas extracting communities in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, was a one-year project implemented by PPDF. Just last week, PPDF has been at Ibeno Beach in Akwa Ibom State discussing with fishers and farmers who are affected by impact of oil spills and to promote the Open Defecation Free Campaign in the area.

PPDF also works on sensitizating communities on the effects of plastic waste in the water bodies. The organisation’s goal is to reduce the level of plastic waste in the coastal environment while advocating for the use of reusable water bottles (no plastic) to avert further contamination of the water bodies.

PPDF also issues the magazine «Community Voice».

PPDF coordinator Umo Isua-Ikoh explains:
«Water is a natural boundary that fosters peace among communities, states and nations. Sadly, this peace broker in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria has been forced into a state of conflict for about 70 years due to the activities of oil multinationals. Before oil extraction, our fishermen could simply turn to their backyard, cast their net or hook and catch lots of fish in a minute to prepare a sumptuous meal for unannounced visitors. This was before the discovery of black gold (oil) in commercial quantities within our communities. Today, our soil and waterways are heavily contaminated by oil spills and constant gas flaring, leading to increased health issues such as breathing difficulties, early menopause in women, reduced sexual satisfaction in couples, and a life expectancy of just 41 years.»

The Blue Community Network welcomes Peace Point Development Foundation as a new strong partner in Nigeria, Africa’s by far most populous country with approximately 230 million inhabitants. The Blue Community is happy to see its values spread to the Niger Delta States of Nigeria and the very sensitive and highly endangered Niger Delta Region. We look forward to working together both nationally and internationally.

Kolade Fadahunsi, coordinator of the Blue Community Chapter Africa, states: «We Welcome PPDF, a Frontline environmental justice organization working from the Niger Delta of Nigeria, where water pollution is massive and a contributory to gross human rights abuse. Today our network has added a new organization that proved ready to work. It’s our admissable duty to turn Africa Blue! The Blue Community strategy is novel.»
