The German city of Landsberg and even the whole “Landkreis” (regional district) joined the Blue Community in 2023. But not everybody is happy with the decision and wants to follow the pledges.

Councillor Ulrike Gömmer from the Green Party, responsible for environmental, nature and climate protection, has requested that tap water be served in carafes during council meetings. Her colleagues did not follow her arguments and did not approve.

Ulla Schäfer (FDP) explained that she loves drinking Landsberg tap water at home. However, she believes that bottled water is better for hygiene reasons in city council meetings and committees. ‘I would like to open the bottles myself.’

Wolfgang Weisensee (Landsberger Mitte) also found that leaving open water for a long time was ‘not entirely harmless’ for hygienic reasons. Ultimately, everyone is free to bring their own drinking water to city council meetings. Harry Reitmeir (CSU) also insisted on freedom of choice: ‘Anyone who wants to drink tap water should be free to do so, but no one should be told what to drink.’

Ulrike Gömmer’s addition of examples of suitable carafes for the hygienic storage of drinking water — such as those used in hotels — to her motion was also unhelpful. Both parts of her motion were rejected by a large majority.
