Nigeria’s Blue Community Peace Point Development Foundation PPDF is seeking support to confront the Oil Spill in Nigeria’s Delta Region of the Niger River (see previous Blue News here). We kindly ask all Blue Communities and other organisations to help PPDF to fulfill its mission of empowering the local communities.
Oil-producing communities across the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria have long endured the environmental, health, and socio-economic consequences of pollution caused by oil exploration and production. In Eastern Obolo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, frequent oil spills most recently linked to Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited have devastated ecosystems, destroyed livelihoods, and left communities without access to justice or clean environment.
There is a critical need to empower these communities with knowledge, tools, and platforms to document environmental harm, advocate for their rights, and engage stakeholders in meaningful and sustained dialogue. Without urgent intervention, these communities risk further ecological loss, economic hardship, and long-term health challenges. This project seeks to amplify the voices of these marginalized communities, foster local environmental governance, and initiate concrete action for restoration and accountability through community-driven approaches and strategic stakeholder’s engagement.
