Right for the Public Service Day (June 23), the Blue Community is proud to welcome its latest partner:
Water Sector Workers Association of Kenya (WASWAK).
The Water Sector Workers Association of Kenya WASWAK is a registered umbrella organization that brings together all water professionals in Kenya. The association’s purpose is to facilitate the sharing of experience, professionalism, best practices, networking opportunities, and solutions to challenges.
WASWAK is an institutional member of the Global Water Operators Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), as well as other international networks such as the African Water Association and Water Professionals International (WPI).
WASWAK is committed to supporting the collective implementation of SDG 6 in Kenya by initiating programmes undertaken by Kenyan water professionals, such as advocacy to increase access to clean, safe, affordable and sustainable water and sanitation services for all.
As a leading sectoral association in climate action and resilience, WASWAK is a key player in NBS initiatives towards climate change mitigation and management as water professionals.
WASWAK coordinates all stakeholders in Kenya and beyond on environmental conservation matters to protect the country’s water resources, including rivers, lakes, and the ocean.
WASWAK has a nationwide network, active on human rights to water and sanitation, starting at county and regional levels and extending to the national level.
Although WASWAK is a young association, it has a youthful mindset and works primarily with young people and women on water-related issues.
WASWAK has established 20 Youth Wash Parliaments across the country and its 47 counties, working closely with them on programmes and initiatives.
Sir Charles Chitechi, President of WASWAK, explains:
«’It’s clear that the Blue Community and the Water Sector Workers Association of Kenya share a powerful vision of collaboration, the exchange of knowledge and best practice, and the sharing of challenges and possible solutions within the local and global water sectors, with the aim of achieving SDG No. 6.
WASWAK strongly believes that we can only collectively address our numerous sectoral challenges through unity of purpose and collaboration with such great communities across the globe.
We are grateful to the Blue Community for focusing on the input of sector operators and water professionals, as well as our development partners, who will empower us to achieve more through this great network. This is what WASWAK believes in too, which is why we are joining the Blue Community.»
Reverend Kolade Fadahunsi, Coordinator of ‹Ecumenical Water Network Africa› and the African Chapter of the Blue Community, welcomes the first Blue Community in Kenya:
«It is with enthusiasm that I welcome the first Blue Community in Kenya, Eastern Africa! WASWAK, a union of water professionals, brings in technical expertise and spread to our movement. The entrant of WASWAK is not only an addition in terms of number but a strategic partnership bridging gaps between the public sector and advocacy actors.
Together we shall achieve a blue continent of Africa, where water justice is entrenched and sanitation becomes prime.»
