A campaign has been launched to repeal the decrees that permit the privatisation of AYSA.
In a statement, professionals, academics, researchers and teachers, as well as social and environmental organisations, expressed their firm opposition to the decrees authorising the privatisation of the state-owned company and the cutoff of its supply. This violates the human right to access water.
«The provision of safe drinking water cannot, under any circumstances, be treated as a commodity. It is an essential human right, recognized by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/292 , numerous international treaties, Supreme Court rulings, and our Constitution. (…) This right must be guaranteed under the principles of universal access, equity, affordability, continuity, and quality, within the framework of transparent, participatory, and public management.»
