Caspian Sea: Oil Spill of the Week

From the Central Asian Blue Community ‘Save the Caspian Sea’:

The biggest slick of the week is 6 km² of pollution on the border of Russian and Kazakh waters.

A Sentinel-1A satellite image from July 16 (05:52 Moscow time), obtained by Transparent World on the Caspian, showed a large ship oil spill covering an area of 6 square kilometers.

To put this into perspective: this is about three principalities of Monaco, including Monte Carlo (2.02 km²), spread out as a thin film on the water.
