From the German Blue Community / Blue City of Neustrelitz:
Working together for a water-sensitive future.
Since 2021, Neustrelitz has been an official ‘Blue Community’ and is committed to the responsible use of water resources. Various groups and dedicated citizens are promoting this idea on a voluntary basis within the urban community.
A key goal is to actively promote the principles of the ‘sponge city’ — a city that stores, uses and allows rainwater to seep away. Neustrelitz helps its citizens to understand the water cycle and implement it in their gardens or on their balconies, offering workshops, lectures and practical projects to support them.
One example of this is the 1.5-day workshop led by water ambassador Anoosh Werner, which includes a sensory walk, a film screening and practical gardening activities. Participants learn how to integrate water sustainably into their everyday lives, in line with the motto ‘Help for self-help’.
The results of the workshop are incorporated into the event series ‘The Future of Our Water’, where knowledge is shared, experiences exchanged and ideas developed for water-sensitive urban development. Comprehensive project documentation ensures that the knowledge benefits everyone in the long term.
