From Blue Commmunity Peace Point Development Foundation – PPDF Nigeria:

It was an engaging day as experts on Climate Justice from various West African Countries including Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo, Nigeria as well as delegates from South Africa and America gathered for the 1st West Africa Climate Justice Roundtable.
The Climate justice gathering acknowledged that impacts of climate change are not felt equally, with marginalized communities and volnurable groups such as women who reside within the impacted communities often experiences the brunt of its effects.
Experiences across different countries highlight the disparities and inform strategies for a more equitable approach to climate action.
It was also strongly highlighted that African Countries should initiate discussions around payment of climate debt against climate financing.
Accordingly, IOCs who created the climate crisis in Africa should lead the way in also solving the problem as climate Justice is all about human rights.
The need to connect West Africa Climate Justice struggle to the Global South struggle such as mining in Asia Pacific, mining and oil extraction in Latin America among others was identified.
A research publication by No REDD+ in Africa Network tagged, “Deconstructing and Debunking False Solutions: REDD+ and Carbon Markets in Africa” was launched.
PPDF appreciate HOMEF for creating the opportunity for critical stakeholders from diverse Countries to connect, network and share experiences.
