The Blue Community is delighted to welcome the NGO Cheerful Hands Initiative for the Girlchild & Women Empowerment (CHI), based in Makurdi, Nigeria, to its network.
Established in 2015 in Benue State, Nigeria, the Cheerful Hands Initiative’s mission is to support the professional and personal development of women and girls through education and training. The organisation strives to give disadvantaged girls access to quality learning resources and support, empowering them to transform their own lives and those of their communities.
In its commitment to the Blue Community core values, CHI writes:
We will promote water conservation practices within our community, encouraging individuals, businesses, and organizations to adopt sustainable water management practices.
We will share our experiences, successes, and challenges with the Blue Community Network, contributing to the collective knowledge and best practices in water conservation.
We will engage our community in water-related issues, raising awareness about the importance of water conservation and promoting sustainable water management practices
To this end, CHI intends to run workshops and outreach programmes to educate communities about their rights to water and sanitation, as well as creating and distributing informational materials such as brochures, posters and videos to raise awareness of the importance of these rights. By partnering with local organisations, governments and international agencies, CHI will promote the human rights to water and sanitation, as well as supporting policy changes that benefit marginalised communities.
CHI is committed to ensuring that water and wastewater services remain publicly owned and operated, prioritising community needs over private interests. CHI advocates increased public financing for water and wastewater infrastructure and strives to enhance transparency in water and wastewater management, ensuring accountable decision-making processes that prioritise the needs of the community and the environment.
Rebecca Abanka, Executive Director of CHI, states:
«We are committed to the Blue Community and its mission of promoting water conservation. By working together, we can have a positive impact on water management and conservation, which will ultimately benefit our community and the environment.»
The coordinator of the Blue Community Chapter Africa, Rev. Kolade Fadahunsi, is delighted to welcome CHI to the Blue Community:
«The Cheerful Hands Initiative introduces a highly relevant strategy to the community: expertise in water conservation. We consider this expertise to be a valuable legacy that promotes the right to water. Conservation enhances sharing and availability. It is therefore inspiring to have the Cheerful Hands Initiative in the Blue Community Africa.
Let’s continue to pool our various skills and expertise to strengthen our commitment to making Africa blue. Welcome on board, CHI!.»
