We only have 4 days left… Take action to protect the Great Lakes now!

There are only 4 days left to make sure US decision-makers hear loud and clear from Canadians: “Protect the Great Lakes, Say No to Enbridge’s Line 5 Tunnel Permit!”

Enbridge, a Canadian oil & gas giant, wants to invest billions into a first-of-its-kind fossil fuel tunnel for their deteriorating Line 5 pipeline. All the energy products flowing through Line 5 can already be accommodated by existing Enbridge infrastructure, but instead, Enbridge wants to play fast and loose with the future of the Great Lakes.

Line 5 was built to last 50 years, but is now over 70 years old. It poses significant environmental risks and has already spilled over 6 million litres of fossil fuels into the Great Lakes Basin.

Instead of shutting down this old, dirty pipeline, Enbridge wants to double down on expanding fossil fuel infrastructure by building an underwater tunnel through the heart of the Great Lakes to encase Line 5 at the Straits of Mackinaw.

A project like this has never been done anywhere in the world.

Michigan decision-makers are about to decide the future of the Great Lakes.

This is the last chance for public comments on any outstanding permits for Enbridge’s dangerous Line 5 Tunnel Project. The deadline for comments is August 29th.

In unity with our kin across the Great Lakes, we are calling on the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and the Honourable Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer to deny permits to Enbridge and to not approve any building of the proposed Line 5 tunnel under the Great Lakes.

RSVP: Land Gathering in Sault Ste. Marie

As folks who know the Great Lakes better than most, we’re reaching out to invite you to a gathering on August 29th in Sault Ste. Marie, ON to stand up for the waters we all rely on.

Water is calling SCCF.
The Line 5 pipeline tunnel puts Lake Huron and Lake Superior at serious risk—from oil spills, drilling, and erosion of treaty rights. This isn’t just political—it’s personal. Our fish, our livelihoods, our kids’ futures are on the line.

We’ll gather at Shingwauk Kinoomaage Gamig for a community lunch feast, water teachings/ceremony, and a screening of the Bad River documentary—about people who, like us, are standing up for the water.

You can register here, which also supports us in anticipating numbers for the feast.

The panel discussion will be livestreamed on Zoom from 1-2:30PM on August 29th, so be sure to RSVP above to receive the link!

As always, we don’t have any core funding to support our fight against Line 5.

If you have anything to spare to help keep this campaign for Great Lakes protection rolling, we would deeply appreciate a donation of any amount here 💙

❤️‍🔥 Donate to End Line 5 Now ❤️‍🔥

We don’t need Line 5 construction. We need a Line 5 closure.

Independent research consistently shows a Line 5 shutdown would have exceedingly minimal impact on energy availability and prices. There are only negative impacts that can come from this project.

Thank you to all of you who have taken action already. We are stronger because you’re with us. That’s how we know we can help Michigan step up to deny permits to Enbridge for this incredibly dangerous project and demand US decision-makers uphold the integrity of these waters above corporate profit and fossil-fuel infrastructure.

Yours in the journey of Great Lakes integrity,
Water Watchers
