The Blue Community / Blue City of Paris with its public water service Eau de Paris has installed a new fountain at La Mie de Pain.
On Tuesday 30 September, a new fountain was inaugurated in the courtyard of the Refuge de l’association Les Œuvres de la Mie de Pain. Winner of the second edition of Eau de Paris’ participatory budget, the project’s objective is simple: to provide free and easy access to water for all.
Water is essential for dignity and social cohesion
Every day, the refuge welcomes 380 people facing great difficulties. With heatwaves becoming more frequent, direct access to drinking water is essential. The fountain offers a breath of fresh air while raising users’ awareness of responsible consumption.
The latest addition to Paris’s drinking fountains, the Mât-Source, is easily accessible to all, including children, people with reduced mobility and the visually impaired, who can use the Braille signage. Modular and scalable, it is also equipped with a misting system to provide an oasis of coolness. The capital has a total of 70 models.
It’s a story that continues to unfold
Eau de Paris and La Mie de Pain have been working together for several years. In 2018, the first ‘Arceau’ fountain was installed at another reception centre, L’Arche d’Avenirs. In 2023, it was upgraded with a misting system, which proved very popular in the summer.
Also in 2023, L’Arche d’Avenirs won the first edition of Eau de Paris’ participatory budget. The grant enabled them to transform their cafeteria into a more sustainable and participatory space, complete with reusable tableware and a suitable dishwasher. Additionally, an educational quiz on water prepared by the Eau de Paris teams raised public awareness of the issue.
