Climate change impacts and extreme weather events such extreme precipitation and low-pressure events in the Bay of Bengal are becoming more frequent and intense. Many critical infrastructures and services such as road, railways, water supply and sanitation and tele-communications are often impacted, resulting in unforeseen challenges for communities and government. It is in this context that the need for more climate resilient infrastructure is being discussed at various levels. Water and sanitation (WASH) systems are one of the climate sensitive systems. Damage and disruptions in these infrastructures are having far reaching impacts on health, education, livelihoods and the overall well-being of people in both rural and urban contexts.
