Murky Water. Debate in London, UK

nature 3

Join us for a lively debate about what needs to happen to England’s privatised water and sewerage industry and how do we get there? The sector is in a worse mess than the government admits, or the public realises. Debt burdened companies must now rely on public private partnerships to build new infrastructure which will not fix storm overflows leave alone the upcoming crisis about drought and flooding after climate change.

This free event coincides with the launch of ‘Murky Water’, a ground breaking book by world-renowned researchers. One of its authors Professor Julie Froud (University of Manchester) will set out the arguments of the book. Other speakers are Dr. Kate Bayliss, a member of the People’s Commission on Water and a leading water sector researcher from SOAS, University of London; Gill Plimmer,  Financial Times journalist; and Ash Smith, founder of Windrush Against Sewage Pollution.

The session will be chaired by Lord Sikka, and there will be opportunity for questions.

Wed 12 Nov 2025 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM Committee Room 11, Houses of Parliament, London SW1A 0AA (please allow 15 minutes for security clearance)

Event Date: November 12, 2025
