The Blue Community is delighted to welcome a new partner in Africa to its global network. The Hope Givers Foundation (HGF) achieved the designation of a Blue Community as first partner in Malawi.
Based in Malawi’s capital Lilongwe, Hope Givers Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization promoting environmental protection, community health, and climate justice, with a strong focus on access to clean and safe water. The organization implements initiatives to improve sanitation, protect rivers, and raise awareness about water conservation, emphasizing collaboration, community participation, and sustainability.
HGF’s project ‹Clean Water for Healthy Communities› was implemented from January 2024 until September 2025 in Chief Njewa’s Area and Lingadzi River, Lilongwe District, Malawi to promote access to clean and safe water through environmental education and action, to protect rivers and water sources from pollution, and to strengthen collaboration between local leaders, communities, and networks for sustainable water management.
During the project over 350 community volunteers contributed to reach 8 communities in Lilongwe District. The active collaboration with local councils, chiefs, and environmental networks resulted in reduced waste along rivers and improved community awareness on sanitation and water management.
For the year to come, HGF Malawi plans to expand the monthly river cleanup activities to additional areas in Lilongwe and nearby districts, but also to construct boreholes and hand washing stations in schools and health centers. Launching a National Water Conservation and River Protection Campaign with international partners and strengthening monitoring systems for water quality and environmental protection, HGF partners with the Blue Community to implement best practices in water and sanitation management.
