In Switzerland, most wastewater is treated in centralised treatment plants. However, decentralised solutions can also offer advantages in certain contexts. In these systems, the various wastewater streams are separated at source, treated locally and resources recovered. Eawag has now published a toolbox that provides an overview of possible technologies for decentralised wastewater systems, helping architects and practitioners find the best solution for their specific needs.
