After Paris, the capital and biggest city of France, the probably smallest Bed&Breakfast in the country joins the Blue Community: the B&B Maré in Mars-sur Allier.

Located in the south-west corner of Burgundy, in the countryside but close to Nevers and Moulins, you may find here a little natural paradise where you can enjoy the benefits of nature by listening to the birds singing, walking around the pond or taking a short bike ride. You can also enjoy seasonal products from the garden.

With 2 bedrooms, the B&B can host up to 8 people – and pets are welcome. There is an additional camping ground for up to three tents. Daniel Altenbach, founder and owner of the Bed&Breakfast Mars, speaks French, German, English, Spanish, and Italian -and he will be glad to show you around and introduce you to his project and the surrounding.

In his commitment to the Blue Community, Daniel Altenbach writes: “After a long period of political activism (in Switzerland) for a more ecological and humane world, I have shifted my focus and am now working (in France) to make my property and economic activity as self-sufficient and sustainable as possible. (…) My vegetable garden depends on spring water from the land. To ensure that this water remains clean, I am next year converting my individual sanitation system to phytopurification, the most efficient and environmentally friendly method available. My B&B should not only be a place to relax in nature, but also a place to live in harmony with nature.”

About the Blue Community, Daniel Altenbach states:

«Access to drinking water and sanitation services are public responsibilities; no private individual should profit from either. Tap water here is supplied by a local authority organisation. I will fight any plans to change this. And I will never buy bottled water as long as tap water is drinkable. I offer my guests unlimited still or sparkling tap water on site. If anyone (e.g. cyclists, pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago, etc.) stops by to ask for water, they are of course welcome to have some

The Blue Community welcomes the Bed&Breakfast Maré in the Blue Community. This B&B is the best proof that nothing and nobody is too small to turn blue. We all can make a difference, whatever and wherever we are. The B&B Maré shows that it is not a question of size, but of dedication to the core values of the Blue Community and of their implementation in the daily operations.
