A generation ago, the Indian relationship with water was direct and communal. Every backyard had a well; the source was visible, local, and protected. Today, that relationship has been severed by urbanization. In modern apartments and gated colonies, water is no longer a resource to be managed but a commodity to be assumed—or purchased.
