Background and Context:
Access to clean and safe water is a fundamental human right essential for health, dignity, and sustainable development. Communities in Lilongwe and Mchinji face challenges in accessing reliable water sources, and limited awareness about water rights, sanitation, and hygiene increases vulnerability to waterborne diseases and environmental degradation. Empowering communities with knowledge and advocacy tools is critical to ensure that everyone can exercise their right to water and live healthier lives.
Project Goal:
To empower communities to recognize and claim their right to water while promoting sustainable practices for water use, hygiene, and sanitation.
Objectives:

Raise awareness about water as a human right and its importance for health, wellbeing, and sustainable development.

Promote safe water, hygiene, and sanitation practices within communities.

Strengthen the capacity of youth, women, and local leaders to advocate for improved access to water.

Document challenges and community-led solutions to inform future advocacy and policy efforts.
Target Beneficiaries:
Community members in Lilongwe and Mchinji, including youth, women, local leaders, and community groups committed to improving water access and hygiene.
Planned Activities:

Conduct interactive community workshops and dialogue sessions on water rights, hygiene, and sanitation.

Develop and distribute educational materials such as brochures, posters, and digital content in local languages.

Train youth and community leaders on advocacy for water rights and sustainable water management.

Organize community engagement activities including clean-ups, demonstrations of water conservation methods, and open discussions on sustainable water management.

Collect feedback from participants to ensure the project is responsive and impactful.
