Water, AI, and the rights of nature: big ideas at Nelson symposium.
Maude Barlow says one of the biggest threats to the ever-decreasing supply of fresh water in the world is the development of AI data centres. The average 100-megawatt data centre consumes about two million litres of water as a coolant every day, she told a Nelson conference on March 22.She said:
”AI is coming to B.C. (British Columbia, province of Canada) Bell Canada’s planning a super cluster of major centres starting with Kamloops and Merritt. Already there’s a protest going around another proposed centre in Nanaimo. There are so many concerns around AI.”
