Water is Love – 4th Büdingen Water Day on World Water Day.
To mark World Water Day, the Büdingen Blue Community working group hosted the 4th Büdingen Water Day at the Novum Cinema. Around 80 people accepted the invitation and together demonstrated their commitment to protecting water, our most vital resource.
In their welcoming remarks, Mayor Benjamin Harris and Jochen Heyermann (head of the Blue Community working group and operations manager of the Büdingen municipal utilities) emphasized the central importance of water and our shared responsibility for its protection.
The highlight of the event was the screening of the documentary film “Water is Love.” The film powerfully illustrates the importance of functioning water cycles for the climate, ecosystems, and society, and shows ways in which disrupted natural processes can be restored.
The subsequent discussion with the audience, moderated by Jan Eckhardt (Wolfgang-Ernst-Gymnasium) and Jochen Heyermann, was characterized by great interest and lively participation. The presentations made it clear that water resources in the region are also undergoing noticeable changes: springs are drying up or carrying less water than before. Important approaches identified included unsealing surfaces, rainwater retention, and infiltration – measures to which municipalities and citizens alike can contribute.
Suggestions from the audience, such as the use of inner-city spaces for urban gardening, also demonstrated how local engagement can contribute to strengthening natural water cycles.
The working group draws a positive conclusion: the 4th Büdingen Water Day once again provided a valuable platform for exchange, information, and networking in line with the goals of the Blue Community.
