Today, 21 April 2026, a first online meeting of the Blue Community South Asia took place. Here a short summary:
This meeting was the first South Asian encounter of the Blue Community Network, where participants from India introduced themselves and their organizations working on water and sanitation issues.
Roland presented the global Blue Community Network structure, explaining it as a network of 234 communities worldwide focused on the human right to water and sanitation, with 14 members in South Asia.
Participants shared their experiences and challenges, particularly Pradeep raising concerns about sustainability and regulatory hurdles facing NGOs in India, while others discussed their water purification innovations and community-based water access projects.
The group discussed potential regional coordination efforts for Blue Community activities in South Asia, including establishing commissions on specific issues and organizing future meetings with global North partners working in the region.
A second meeting for all those that could not attend the first round will be held next Monday. More information will come after that second meeting.
