We are excited to share that Rural Nurture Initiative (RNI) has a new publication titled “Bottom-Up Approaches to Rural Water Security: Evidence from a Community-Based WASH Project in Nigeria” in the Journal of Social and Community Development.
This study reflects what we believe at RNI that real impact begins with communities, not just for them.
Drawing from our work in rural communities, the research explores how meaningful community participation shaped the design and outcomes of our water intervention.
It highlights how local voices influenced technology choices, how WASH education translated into improved hygiene practices, and what this means for building sustainable solutions.
One message stood out clearly: before this intervention, access to clean water was a daily struggle, especially during the dry season. Today, that story is changing not just through infrastructure, but through ownership, knowledge, and collective action.
At RNI, we are intentional about translating our outreach work into evidence that can inform policy, guide practice, and inspire scalable solutions across similar contexts.
We are proud to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on community-driven development and sustainable WASH interventions.
