From the Indian Blue Community PRISM – Professional Institute for Development and Socio-Environmental Management:

Today is World Health Day and on this occasion PRISM-NB team arranged a program on Menstrual Hygiene Management at MADARIHAT Girls HS school.

After noticing some significant behavioural changes in the community and being able to create an environment to discuss the MHM issues openly PRISM started identifying the gaps and finally developed some audio visual presentations to address a few pertinent questions like,
a) What is menstruation?
b) What is the menstrual cycle?
c) What happens during the menstrual cycle?
d) What is a typical menstrual period like?
e) What kinds of problems do women have with their periods?
f) When does a girl usually get her first period?
g) How long does a woman have periods?
h) When should a girl see a doctor about her period?
i) How often one should change her absorbing materials?
j) Normally how much blood is oozed out in those days,
k) The importance of taking rest,
l) What should be the diet based on affordability and availability?
m) What is the importance of consuming safe drinking water and how to make Safe Drinking Water at home?
n) The importance of discussing the issue with all family members,
o) How to select sanitary protection materials and how to dispose them?
p) What are the health risks of poor MHM?
q) Impacts of myths related to menstruation in a girl’s and woman’s life as well as on the entire family,
r) Importance of developing an understanding on MHM and Human Rights and why they should own the ‘Right to Safe Menstruation Campaign’ initiative.
