Austria – Climate Status Report 2025:
Climate change is having an increasingly strong impact on groundwater.
Study shows potential losses of up to €600 million annually – sufficient budget for climate change adaptation measures urgently needed
Climate change is increasingly affecting the availability and quality of groundwater in Austria. The reduced snowfall is having a particularly strong impact, with snowfall also lasting for shorter periods. Overall, rising temperatures and the resulting higher evaporation rates, altered precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events are leading to less water seeping into deeper soil layers and less groundwater being replenished.
