For World Water Day 2026, the Brazilian Blue Community / Blue University PUCPR – Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná, published the book Blue Universities – A University and Water Justice. While the book is available in Brazilian Protuguese only, authors of one chapter made their text now available also in German:
Büdingen, Germany & Canavieiras, Brazil – A partnership to protect water as a human right within the framework of the Blue Community.
By Maria “Barbara” Helena de Souza Ide, President of the Canavieiras Tourism Council
Claus Wilkens, Water Ambassador, Blue Community Germany and Brazil.
This article aims to present the origins and future prospects of a potential collaboration between civil society actors from two small towns in different countries and continents: Büdingen, Germany, and Canavieiras, Brazil. The motivation to advocate for water as a human right and as a resource to be protected and preserved stands in contrast to the pressure from large and powerful corporations to transform water into a privately acquired, used, and marketed resource, which has already led to serious problems regarding its use and distribution.
